Eat your heart out Rio; Nidderdale has its own premier sporting event. The Nidderdale Sprint Trainthlon takes place every second weekend in September and the last 5km run comes through the field in front of the cottage.
One of the best things about the event is that it supports inclusion as much as excellence. People of all ages and abilities don their sports gear and enjoy the great outdoors.
The athletes have already swum 400m and cycled 20Km by the time they reach us, and the exertion is beginning to tell. Two laps between the lesiure centre up the road and Pateley Bridge comes out at 5km. When you are sprinting, this must seem like an awful long way.
This year one of the front runners joked to a steward, "Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope I don't see you again today." No, but we hope to see you again next year. Or maybe we'll be joining you next time.
