Fresh-baked summer

River View Dales holiday accommodation view from the meadow

The fields clothed themselves in sunshine today and we have to say they scrub up well. Buttercups are pushing their way through the summer grasses in readiness for the big harvest on 15th July. We're told by the local farmers that herbs and wildflowers in the grass taste as good to the sheep as they look to us. Apparently the difference between a crop like this and forced grass has a rough equivalent of seed bread to the white sliced variety. It got us thinking about what the crop would taste like with some riverside garnish: Elder Flower Cordial perhaps?
