Down by the river

With warmer weather, it is time for dogs and children to take to the river in front of the cottage. On the right day, the air rings with the sound of splashing, laughter and the odd squeal as one of the young athletes puts their head in the water. For the rest of us, the river is a more sedate experience. Strolls among the bluebells, picnics by the water's edge and a spot of very genteel treasure hunting. Golden spring flowers, baby rabbits, a red kite flying overhead are all on the list. If you listen you might hear the cuckoo call on its way to steal another bird's nest.
