September sunshine

We have had our rainy days and overcast skies but the past few days have been warm and balmy. Children went to school coatless. There was time for splashing in the river. We even managed a picnic lunch.

There are next to no apples this year. Most of the newly planted trees are too young. The older one has not fruited this year, probably because the undergrowth is too thick. Our spate of gardening during lockdown was defeated by the growth of summer. Blackberries run riot across the rock garden and elderberries do exactly as they please. Nature takes with one had and gives with the other, and sunny days make it hard to worry about anyth.
